The High School Assistant Director school at Scheck Hillel Community School plays a crucial role in supporting the academic and cultural mission of the institution. This position involves collaborating with faculty, staff, and parents to create a positive learning environment that encourages student engagement and success. Key responsibilities include, implementing and overseeing school policies, managing student affairs, and fostering a strong sense of community. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a passion for education, and the ability to inspire both students and staff as they navigate their academic journeys.
Supports the Academic Program of the High School by:
- Conducts observations of HS teachers to provide real-time feedback to academic staff and to develop professional development; uses data to model best practices at department meetings and in classes
- Coaches teachers on standards-based practices
- Builds the capacity of academic team to collect, analyze, interpret, and use student data so they can more effectively plan and differentiate instruction based on student needs
- Supports academic team in developing action plans based on data, provide feedback on action plans, and monitor implementation of action plans
- Reviews lesson plans of teachers and provides feedback on objective and lesson alignment.
- Supports the Director of HS Academic Affairs by identifying resources, curricular materials, and experiential learning opportunities for students/staff
- Collaborates with the Director of High School Academics and Director of Middle School Academics to continue to develop the vertical curriculum across departments as the school grows and expands
Manages the Student Culture of the High School by:
- Enforcing school-wide expectations daily with students
- Managing student behavior that requires time and intervention beyond the classroom
- Manages student attendance system and policies, and regularly intervenes with students whose attendance does not meet school-wide expectations.
- Leads restorative intervention for students who have engaged in behaviors that have causes significant disruption/harm to the community
- Collaborates with Director of Student Life to create incentives that promote positive school culture
- Assist in scheduling special programs and gatherings with the school administration and office of student life as related to establishing norms for expected behavior.
- Keeping the Division Directors fully informed on student issues and all other relevant matters pertaining to school life.
- Working to improve negative aspects of school culture, reduce the number of referrals by coaching faculty.
- Helping supervise students as directed (e.g., arrivals/departures, parking lots, lunch periods, hall duty, extracurricular programs, etc.).
- Preparing and maintaining accurate records. Submits reports on time. Maintains discipline records for the maximum period mandated by law and/or board policy.
- Manages the positive behavior reinforcement system
- Models the Core Values and contributes to a healthy HS culture
Manages interventions for Students by:
- Leading the Students of Concern team to ensure students receive appropriate, tiered interventions for academics, behavior
- Analyzing academic, behavioral, and attendance data to identify and correct trends
- Lead strategic initiatives to improve academic outcomes and/or attendance/behavioral outcomes
- Collaborating with counselors and administrators to ensure appropriate student supports are in place
- Meet with parents/stakeholders to ensure appropriate supports are provided to students outside of school
Qualifications
A strong candidate for the The High School Assistant Director will have significant knowledge of and expertise both academic and cultural elements of school leadership, while demonstrating: deep care for students, and families, an ability to be a self-starter and take initiative, a love for collaboration and teamwork, strong work ethic, excellent organizational skills, flexibility, and ease and experience in managing and analyzing data. Additionally, a strong candidate will possess:
- Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university (Master’s Preferred)
- Minimum of 5 years experience working in high school with at least 4 years of teaching experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of leadership experience in high schools
- A minimum of 2 years of experience managing others
- Demonstrated experience in leading, motivating, growing, and developing high-performing teams which deliver results
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills including working with students, teachers, leaders, and families
- Ability to respond effectively to the needs of a diverse and multicultural student population
- Ability to respond effectively to the high expectations of student and parent populations
- Experience with restorative justice and/or willingness to be trained in restorative justice preferred
